AIS transponder systems
What is it?
How does it work?
Why should you use it?
What type of AIS transponder system is Avionetics
offering?
What
exactly
is an AIS transponder system?
AIS (Automatic Identification System) is a system
making it possible to identify and receive information
about all vessels within VHF coverage.
How does an AIS
transponder system work?
The AIS uses two VHF channels, where information
about a vessels identity, position, course, speed and
heading is transmitted with a high frequency. The size,
cargo and destination (if available) are also provided
and is presented to the user through a
electronic display
system. The AIS equipment works
autonomously and is self-organising its transmissions.
Why use an AIS
transponder system?
The AIS transponder can be helpful in several types
of vessels. The system is used in search and rescue
(SAR) helicopters and increases the surveillance capacity
for the coastguard. The AIS transponder system also
benefits environmental protection and helps to eliminate
the problem with radar range. Another great advantage
with the AIS transponder system is the national security
monitoring. Today AIS transponder
systems are used worldwide in SAR-, military- and
icebreaker operations.
What type of AIS
transponder system is Avionetics offering?

individual customer. We provide a selection of
